Chinese delegation visit Camphill
Amity Foundation to learn about Camphill School Aberdeen
Members from The Amity Foundation, an independent Chinese voluntary organisation, are to visit Camphill School Aberdeen tomorrow to learn more about the care of children within the autistic spectrum.
The two visitors, Chu Chaoyu and Wang Jing, are visiting Scotland for two weeks as guests of the Scottish Churches China Group to discover techniques which they can take back and apply within The Amity Foundation. After learning about the ethos and ‘sector leading standards’ for which the school has been praised for by the HM Inspectorate of Education and the Care Commission, the two delegates were invited to journey from Nanjing in Central China to see them applied within the classroom environment.
As part of their visit, they will also meet with Hua Wa, a Chinese Co-worker who is studying the BA in Curative Education, run in partnership between Camphill School Aberdeen and Aberdeen University. Laurence Alfred, Co-ordinator for Camphill School Aberdeen said:
“We are delighted to welcome another set of visitors to Camphill School Aberdeen. This is one of several visitor groups we’ve had this year from around the world and we are always enthusiastic to share our knowledge with them. We’re very much looking forward to Chu and Wang’s visit.”
Camphill School Aberdeen is an independent voluntary school which operates on three campuses – Camphill (Milltimber), Murtle (Bieldside) and Cairnlee (Bieldside) – in the Lower Deeside area of Aberdeen. The school provides residential and day places for more than 90 pupils, offering education, care and therapy.
Camphill School Aberdeen is one of six Camphill Aberdeen City and Shire communities, which provide support for children, young adults, adults and the elderly who have special needs. Founded at Camphill in the Milltimber area of Aberdeen in June 1940, the Camphill Movement now extends to more than 100 centres in 23 countries.
The Amity Foundation guests will visit various locations during their two week visit to Scotland including Threshold in Hamilton, a language and speech therapist in Stirling and a primary school for pupils with learning difficulties in Glasgow.
