Tigh a'Chomainn

An urban community home for adults with special needs

Tigh a'Chomainn is a Camphill Community providing a home for adults with special needs in Aberdeen. Our aim is to support and assist them in exploring their personal potential and their limitations, so that they may find purpose, direction and a sense of fulfilment in their lives.

As an intentional community co-workers and adults with special needs live together as an extended family in all aspects of daily life. It is a stable, safe place with good human connections.

Residents are usually expected to have some measure of independence in personal care, domestic capability and self reliance. Work and home life are seen as distinct. Residents go out five days a week to work, training schemes or further education. Involvement in social and cultural activities outside Tigh a’Chomainn is encouraged and supported.

Tigh a'Chomainn is situated in Peterculter, about eight miles from the centre of Aberdeen. Once an outlying village, Peterculter retains much of its village atmosphere. Our two houses are in a residential area within walking distance of all local amenities - shops, library, banks, post office, village hall - and we are on the route of a frequent bus service to the city centre.

Accommodation is provided for six permanent residents and there is one respite place. Formerly the manse of an adjacent church, our original house is set in an acre of land. A second three-bedroomed house (Tigh Beag) sits within the grounds.
